Ina's Ultimate Beef Stew

This is the recipe that started this whole challenge for me. My friend made it and said I HAD to try it because it truly is "the Ultimate." My husband is not a big stew fan, so I was a little nervous about making this and having an accurate review. More than anything, the aromas that this stew created in our kitchen were extremely salivating. Here goes...

Let's break it down.

PREP

If you have EVERYTHING laid out before hand, this is easy. However, it took me a LONG time to do this, and I didn't allow enough time for that, given that I wanted to have this on the table at a decent time for dinner.

COOK

Most stews have you coat the beef in flour before browning, and this did not. I appreciated that. The extra step of that is always a pain. There are a lot of steps here, but, like I said with the prep, if you have it all laid out, it's pretty simple. You are active for most of the time, though, you don't want to leave anything too long to make sure nothing burns before adding liquids to the stew.

REVIEW

As stews go, I believe this was the "Ultimate." If I was to make stew again, I would make this one. That said, we just aren't HUGE stew fans, so this didn't floor me. If you're into stew and want a comforting winter meal, though, go for it. It really is delicious.
